Balancing
Your Fishing Rods

(Step by step instructions on how to build a fulcrum to help find the balance point on your fishing rods)

Supplies Needed For The Fulcrum
  • (1 piece 7"X6", 1 piece 2&1/2"X6") of 1"X6" pine board
  • 1 - 15" piece of 3/4" PVC pipe
  • 1 - 6" piece of 3/4" PVC pipe
  • 1 - 3/4" 90° PVC Elbow
  • 1 - 3/4" PVC End Cap
  • 1 - Cup Hook
  • 8" of Velcro Hook & Loop
  • 1 - Hand Drill or Hobby Drill Press
  • 1 ea. 3/32" drill bit, 3/4" paddle bit
  • Wood Glue or Epoxy
  • 1 - 2" piece of Duct Tape or Aluminum Tape

OK Let's start putting our pieces together.

Ok we have found our pieces of 1X6.
One is 2&1/2" and the other is 7".

Here I have glued up the two pieces, gluing the 2&1/2" on top of the 7" piece. I have also marked the center for the 3/4" hole to be drilled, when the pieces have dried.

Here I have drilled the 3/4" hole just a little oversized, and have epoxied the 15" vertical pipe into the hole
NOTE here I used a 5 min epoxy and placed the 2" strip of aluminum tape on the bottom of the base to hold the epoxy as it cured around the pipe.

Here the base is done, the 15" vertical pipe is mounted and you see the rest of the parts.

Here I have drilled a small pilot hole for the cup hook. You can also see that I have punched holes into the velcro to hang on the hook.

Here are the final pieces, the 90° elbow, the 6" arm with the cup hook installed, and the velcro on the hook, also the end cap. You won't need to glue this up, just press them together

Here is the tool fully assembled

Here is the tool fully assembled, and in use.....

Ok we have a fulcrum to help us find our balance point.
Now lets go learn how to use it and add the weight.
