All images are clickable
First off your going to need the following supplies...An adjustable wrench, some sand paper 60 or 100 grit preferably mounted on a hardwood block, and last but not least one of the replacement composite cork butt cap kits found in the supply shop.
Each Kit Contains: 1 - Straight or 1 Flanged Composite Cork Butt Cap, ID.78"  1 - envelope 5 min epoxy
Step 1) Let's get started. Take your adjustable pliers and set to the widest opening. Next use the pliers to carefully squeeze the old poly butt cap all the way around it at the cork line. This will loosen the old epoxy that is holding it in place. If it doesn't loosen the first time around, keep rotating the rod and crimping carefully. Once the cap is lose grip it with the pliers and twist it off of the grip. Again crimp carefully so that you do not break the cork of the grip down. Once you get the old cap off proceed to the next step.
NOTE: If you don't feel secure in doing your butt cap this way. You can heat the butt cap with boiling water to loosen the epoxy. Submerge just the cap into the water for a couple of minutes and try turning with your pliers. If the cap does not come off first time repeat the process.
Step 2) Now that you have the old poly butt cap off, it is time to clean up the cork area that the cap fits to. Take your sanding block and first clean up the end of the cork and rod blank. Do this carefully so that you don't score the blank or crumble the cork grip end. Try to keep this area a square as possible. Once you feel you have succeeded with this step move on to the next step.
Step 3) Now using your sanding block clean up the area on the indent of the cork itself, using the lighter grit paper sand lightly around the indent of the grip. Try not to take to much off, you want to just remove any old epoxy that remains, try not to change the shape of this area. The new butt cap will need to fit tight, to adhere properly. Once you have the area ready it is time to epoxy the new cap on.
Now it is time to mix up your epoxy and mount the new composite cork butt cap to the grip. Follow the instructions on the epoxy package. You will have just 5 min. to work with, so make sure you are ready for this procedure. When you are done mixing the epoxy, apply it to the indent area on the grip and the interior of the butt cap. Slide the cap into place and hold it on using enough pressure to keep it up tight against the edge of the indent. This will give you a good seamless look, clean-up of any epoxy that seeps out can be done with denatured alcohol. Hold it there for about 3 min. or until it won't try to slide off. Now step back and admire your new cork butt cap your done...
