Guide Wraps, Marbling & Flames

Guide wraps allow you to show your colors or reflect your more practical side. In the photo's below are some examples of guide wraps that I have done. All of the single foot guides were wrapped with the Forhan Locking Wrap.

In this example, the guide is wrapped with a Gudebrod Burgandy (NCP) No Color Preserver type of thread. Plus a Silver trim and then ending the wrap with an NCP White trim band. The NCP gave the rod a painted look instead of seeing threads and blank. I did this to test the UV of the Rod Finish I use. The rod has seen 4 years of summer sunlight, with no yellowing.

In this example I have wrapped the spinning rod with a Gudebrod Purple main wrap, and used a Teal color for the trim and spiral behind the guide. I did this rod for a lady angler that used it to land her biggest bass to date.

Here I have wrapped a spinning rod for a tournament angler that liked blue but he was never satisfied with the blue colors he had seen on rack rods. I under wrapped the guides with the Metallic Silver and over wrapped (Forhan Locking Wrap) with a Gudebrod Royal Blue, it came out like it had been candied.

This example is of a baitcasting rod I did for an angler that wanted a true candy apple red wrap. I under wrapped the guides with my Metallic Silver, and over wrapped with Gudebrod Candy Apple Red nylon allowed to go transparent. The silver under wrap gave the candy apple thread the bright base it needed to give a true Candy Apple Red wrap.

This is truly my favorite style of wrapping. I did this rod for a tournament angler, who wanted a stealthy type of rod. He said "Nothing bright and flashy", he told me that in his opinion "tournament anglers should not own fancy bright colored rods because all they do is stare at the rod and not pay attention to what the task at hand was". So I wrapped (Forhan Locking Wrap) this rod with a packed tight Gudebrod Rust color, no under wrap, or Color Preserver and only a single thread Gudebrod Copper inlay, and allowed to go transparent. A stealthy looking custom rod, this one is a 7' SC3 MHF it came in just under 4.5oz.

In this example I'm up 2nd (it's a BLG5.5) guide from the tip. But I wanted to show you how tight I get my wraps. This one is another stealthy rod I did in Gudebrod Burgandy, packed tight, without Color Preserver, single metallic silver thread inlay, then another single white thread inlay before finishing with a Forhan Locking Wrap. Also allowed to go transparent.

Here's The Marbling

This is an example of the marbling that I do instead of thread weaves, diamond, and chevron wraps. Thread work is more time consuming, and adds weight to the rod.

As you can see in this example, that the only limitations you have with marbling is your imagination. No two marblings or flamings are the same and can never be reproduced exactly. There fore making your design a one of a kind....

In this example you see the marbling of the rod in front of the foregrip, along with the decals

In this example you see the back of the area marbled.

Here is another example of the marbling that can be done in front of the forgrip.

Again as you can see in these examples, that the only limitations you have with marbling is imagination. No two marblings are the same and can never be reproduced exactly. Making this style of design a one of a kind....
